Health Savings Accounts (HSA) Health Savings Accounts are quickly becoming the most popular type of insurance plan in Colorado. HSA’s are particularly attractive for anyone who wants more control over how their medical premiums are spent (or invested). They are also very popular with anyone looking for tax advantages from their health insurance plan. HSA’s have relatively robust preventative benefits (often at no cost) and they function like traditional health insurance plans after the deductible is met. However, unlike traditional health insurance plans, most HSA’s do not require you to pay a co-insurance percentage. The best selling HSA’s in Colorado include: Golden Rule’s HSA 100 and HSA Saver Plans Kaiser’s CarePay HSA Plans Aetna's MC Open Access High Deductible 3000/5000 Plans Humana’s Autograph HSA Plans
Traditional Plans Traditional plans are similar to health insurance offered by an employer. These plans are popular with anyone who needs regular doctor office visits or anyone with routine drug prescriptions. Traditional plans allow you to reasonably predict your medical expenses and they are more convenient than other types of health insurance plans. A typically office visit under a traditional plan will cost between $20 and $35. Also, traditional plans have a co-insurance requirement of 20% to 30%, relatively low deductibles, and reasonable out-of-pocket maximums. Traditional products typically offer both in-network and out-of-network coverage (with the exception of Kaiser’s plans that only cover expenses incurred in-network). Many carriers also offer optional benefits to help round out the coverage. The most popular traditional plans in Colorado are: Golden Rule’s Copay Select and Copay Saver Plans Aetna’s Managed Care Open Access & First Dollar 25 Plans Kaiser’s Copay Plan Humana Portrait and Autograph Plans
High Deductible Plans High deductible plans are a great solution for people who do not normally use healthcare services; however, they need protection from unexpected accidents and illnesses. The monthly premium for these plans is significantly less expensive than traditional plans (up to 73% less in some cases). The coverage is not as comprehensive as other plans but people who shop these plans rarely use healthcare services. High Deductible Plans are listed below: Golden Rule’s Plan 100, Plan 80, Saver 80 Plans Aetna’s Preventative & Hospital Plan Humana’s Monogram Plan Kaiser’s Deductible Plan
Short Term Plans Short term health insurance plans are a great option for recent college graduates, for anyone between jobs, for seasonal workers, for retired workers awaiting Medicare eligibility, or for anyone in a period of transition or change. Short term policies are particularly attractive to mountain athletes who need coverage for a particular skiing, climbing, or kayaking season. BenefitRiver suggests the Golden Rule Short Term plan
